In order to make that art, what personal sacrifices are we willing to make?

We’re in our second month of showcasing what’s new and nerdy in the world of pop culture! SO MUCH AWESOME. This month was cram-jam full of new releases so we’ll get right to the point and wrap-up what we wrote this month:Holly Lyn Walrath Managing Editor

Popular Stories This Month

IFP co-editor Michael Glazner interviewed Yoon Ha Lee, a master of short fiction known for complex folkloric space opera that redefines the genre. Yoon Ha Lee‘s latest book is Dragon Pearl, which tells Min’s story: a 13-year-old girl descended from fox spirits, who leaves her planet to find her brother. We’re stoked to be able to feature such talented authors!

Speaking of space opera, E.D. Walker brought us a fantastic run-down of all things starbound and fantastical coming your way in 2019. You’ll want to bookmark her list of upcoming space opera releases to add to that TBR pile! Let us know what space opera books you are looking forward to this year.

In TV reviews, Kaylee Craig brought us an insightful look at Netflix and Tim Miller’s latest — Love Death + Robots. This NSFW anthology of animated shorts has something for everyone — from gladiators to robots to space to military to fantasy to steampunk. But as Craig points out, it entirely misses the mark on representation.

In forthcoming shows, Laura Diaz de Arce explored the first episode of Jordan Peele’s highly-anticipated reboot of The Twilight Zone. The new version draws a line between performance and the personal. The show asks, in order to make that art, what personal sacrifices are we willing to make? What truths about ourselves, our circumstances, are we willing to reveal?
